ok, about a two weeks ago, we let our two cats outside while we were in the backyard (our two cats are lidgy - 14 years old, still going strong, no claws....and danielle - 4 year old, scrappy alleycat, with claws). they just poked around and sniffed around the backyard. now, these two kitties have, for the most part, peacefully co-existed for the past two years..even going so far as to share the same couch. they are also both inside allthetime cats (side from this little excursion).

so, here we are outside, peaceful and quiet. all of a sudden, lidgy takes off from the end of the yard and goes after danielle. they start hissing and meowing really loud at one another...not biting or scratching but definately NOT playing around.

and they have been like this for the past two weeks.

so, now lidgy has taken to POOPING in my room because, i believe, she is afraid of danielle and wont go the basement where the food and litterboxes are.

and i DONT want to move lidgy's food and litter box, not that it would help because danielle, the hog, would just eat lidgy's food and use lidgy's box anyway.

so, my current bright idea was to lock them, together, in our rather large basement, where the food and litterboxes are and force them to share the same space.

i just went down and lidge is in a dark corner hissing and danielle is trying to get upstairs. and when danielle followed me over to where lidge was, they freaked out and hissed at one another.

HELP!!!!!! i would appreciate any suggestions.

maybe i should call the pet psychic?

give them time...it's almost like you are introducing them to each other again...you might want to move the litterbox just for a short time though unless you like cleaning up poop

and don't let them outside again...it was too much for them to handle

your one cat, called the other one a bitch.

that made the other one run after her, and confront her.

however since the one with the claws could kick the shit out of the one without them, your other one is now a little bit frightened to get her ass cut up.

tell the one with the claws to apologize for calling the other one a name, and have the other one accept that, and make them hug and shake paws.

the end

PS. I was only joking, hope your cats get along soon, and their cold war ends.

Are they both spayed?

Something outside triggered your older cat to become territorial and competitive. Basically she switched into wild cat mode and began competing with and threatening your other cat for "rights" to the house. Your older cat definitely got paranoid and scared from the experience and it will simply take time for them to re-adjust to each other.

I second what JC said. Cats are extremely territorial animals and maybe being outside sparked their natural behavior. Keep them inside and hopefully they will readjust to each other and start to do their business in the litter box.

My cat Cosmo is an extremely neurotic/paranoid cat. We've kept him as an inside cat but since he was about 2 or 3 he would constantly hang around the door, or sneak out any way he he could. One day we got tired of trying to keep him inside and figured that maybe being outside would cure his paranoia/neurosis but instead it made him worse. Every other cat we've had was always totally calm, but this one surely takes the cake as a "special case", lol.

thanks guys!

yes, they are both spayed. there are a few outside cats in the neighborhood and they probablly smelled them. they are getting along a little better downstairs....just staying on either end of the basement but not hissing at eachother as much.

i think they need a new puppy to really fuck their worlds up :) :dog:
