Can you not convert wma to whatever file necessary for use with iTunes & the iPod? Apparently there's some tape & marker trick you can use to get around it, but I'm not entirely sure how it works.

S U C C E S S !!!!! THAT"S THE WAY YOU SPELL SUCCESS!
i found a way to avoid it... you hold donw the "shift key" before you insert the cd and then for like 10 sec after and this skips the auto boot up which install's drivers on your computer that cause it to act screwy when you burn!!!
i already had the drivers installed cuz i didnt know it and couldnt find them to delete them... LUCKILY i have this program called GO BACK that allows you to revert your hard drive to a previous state, so i reverted it to this morning. put the cd back in with shift down and presto!!! the drivers where not installed and i could rip it like i wanted...
all is right with the world again!!
i take back 1/2 of the bad things i said about RCA... but only 1/2... :)

and the marker thing is something like taking a permanent pen and drawing on the outer cd prevention ring. basically just scribble over it, all around. I've never tried it myself so....who knows.

...that you have found a kludge to get around it.
The best thing to do though is to take the CD back to the store and demand your money back. When they ask you why, tell them that you cannot use the CD with an iPod, which is how you want to listen to your music.
The store will refund your money (and if they don't threaten to call consumer affairs, because if they didn't tell you about the anti-ripping thing at the POS, then they HAVE to refund your cash) and send the CD back to BMG as a return. Hopefully more people will do it too and the idiots who run these companies will finally realise that they are slowly erodingtheir consumer base with their paranoid tactics.
One thing though, don't rip the music!! It would be wrong to take the nusic and then return the CD. You would be stealing. Besides, why i the world would you want to listen to the music of a band that will not let you listen to their songs in the manner which you choose? Velvet Revolver are as much to blame here as the label. They signed with one of the mega corps so they could take advantage of their distribution channels and now that should come back and bite them on the ass.

yeah there was a warning on mine too... i just know now not to buy them when they have that warning...
i dont buy into the whole "stealing music" idea... people have been recording songs off the radio and copying tapes for years...
to me, the reason for the recent decline, is that they cahnged formats to cd and slowly albums were rereleased onto cd and people kept re-buying things they already had just cuz they wanted it on the new cd format, now we have caught up and everyone owns everything on cd again and there isnt anything else to re-release, it just relies on "new" albums...
if some super new format came out to replace cd's tomorrow, sales would likely go up again as people re-buy albums on another new format...
just my idea...

Poor Little i-Pod..you can still get it one your ipod... there are three ways...
1. if you have an apple computer, when you put the cd in it will let you rip the file as an ACC file, which the ipod can play (i dont know why you cannot do it if you have a PC with WIndows)
2. if you buy the cd, before you put it in your PC to rip it, hold down the shift key, then while holding it down put in the cd and keep holding it down for like 20 sec. then rip the cd like normal in to your ipod (this bypasses the security thingy)
3. you can just download it from itunes for 9.99 but then you dont get the case which i always like...
i figured it all out when i was upset... but basically any way you want to do it, it is possible... so ipod still RULES!!!
