When will the fucking flyers ever realize that getting other teams out of their prime goalies just doesnt work....
vanbiesbrook...
burke (once before)....
hextall.... several times....
peeters....
hackett....
mybe if they woke up and saw that the goalie is a very big key to winning the cup they would for once go out and get a real winner.
i'll admit they the flyers have picked up a few gems in the past on trades like this, they try to do it this way every time and it just doent work enough!!!
if they keep this up we will be as big of a joke franchise as... say....
the canadians...

Goalies are the last line of defense. There are so many great goaltenders in the league today( anyone watch the All-Star skills contest last night?), but when its all said and done, its how well the other players work in front of the goalie. If you've got a well-rounded team where everyone chips in and works hard, you're bound to go far.
In the Flyers case, they dominate all year at the top of the conference, but when it comes down to what really matters, they blow it, or as Terry Murray said a few years back when they went to the finals "We choaked".
I really didn't know why they traded Chechmanek to LA in the summer. He was a really good goalie for them, but like I said before, its how well the team plays as a whole....its not all up tp the goalie.
It seems to me, that the two of the four metropolitan teams around here(Flyers, Islanders, Rangers, and Devils), two of the four play great, with players who have very small salaries. The Flyers and the Ranger$ think that they can spend top dollar for premium players and win that way, it really doesn't work that way. Slather, Clarke, and Snider should take lessons from our dear Lou Lamoriello...Penny pinching seems to work. :)
We don't have any huge stars or ego's, and we play a very boring and text book style of hockey, but, it wins in the long run.

yeah, and backing it all up is only the best goalie out there, so your point is all void :)
i certainly dont wanna go against the idea that everyone is important. but a goalie is the closest think in hockey to a quarterback. it is the goalie who can steal a game for you which may just make a series go the other way...
if you have a great goalie you can get by with other problems up front and still win...

Haha, no my point is valid. There are games when we the Devils play like absolute shit. Marty can't stop everything.
One point I'd like to bring up is Brian Boucher. He played with Philly, and Philly didn't win with him, so they traded him. Now he's in Pheonix and just posted the longest shut out streak in years with 5 games without letting a goal get past him. So to me, it is all about the team and who is in front of a goalie. You don't go five games without letting a goal in with just the work of a goalie. Thats the team working as a whole. Sure, the goaltending can swing a game or a series, but its not all just the man behind the mask. :)
Marty will probably break the record for shut-outs in a season(he's kissin' that record right now), but it wasn't all his work, its the work of the defenseman and everyone else.
