so, just cause i know some of you peeps care (and i hope you dont mind smirks).....the deal, if its gonna happen, will be done today or tomorrow, at the latest. anytime after that, pretty much forget it.
it looks like the flyers are looking to get (forgive me for this spelling..FRINK) markov and antripov to come to the flyers, along with a draft pick or 2. the flyers are ALSO looking at other teams (phoenix and la) for a possible 3 way. those in the know in philly say that the deal has a 50/50 shot at this point...clarke is mum....and lindros' dad is parked out front of clarke's house with a megaphone and refuses to shut up until the trade is done...
in my humble opinion, i think that if the leafs are looking to having lindros come in and lead their stumbling team, good luck. this guy is as much a leader as a ricky watters or a charles barkley...awesome talent, little to no leadership qualities, in fact could be called an anti-leader. that coupled with the fact that the guy prob should never play again, due to the numerous concusions he has received, is a reason to be concerned about his ability to rally the team, let alone play out an entire season.
although as a true philly phan, i should say, oh, it will be a great deal, take it...and we will skate right by you in the playoffs:)
ill keep you all up to date:)

I too, being from philly and having season tix, am a huge fan. I will tell you one thing this deal has LET'S GO FLYERS all over it. We are basically getting players for free because we aren't giving up anything(we don't pay lindros, nor does he contribute to our team). The key to this deal is the 22 year old defenseman(hagerle or dagerle???)--he apparently is going to be one of the leagues top defenseman in the next 3 years, thus being the the crux of this deal. The flyers will also pick up either rob blake(30%) or keith tchuck(75%)....look for us to make the suprise run. I loved lindros, but one more hit and he is seriously done so this deal is much more advantageous for us.

Unfortunately I agree, I think Philly is definitely making out better with this trade.
The papers here(Toronto) are reporting there is no way the Leafs will trade Kaberle, they will give up Natropov, Markov and a draft pick or picks dependant of the number of games Lindros plays.

This will be a great move for the Leafs. They are in a pretty good position to trade both Antropov and Markov because they have players like Mair, Farkas, Dempsey and Belak who can easily fill their roles. So bring on Lindros and maybe with another deadline addition they will stand a chance at going to the finals.

Right now the way the Leafs are playing, they should worry about making the playoffs.

Exactly, no offense Professor but the leafs are hurtin and they don't have the firepower to get anywhere near the finals...Cujo is slippin and as much as i think lindros could help you, one big hit and he is done, and your trade will be worthless. The players you are sending us are good, not great, but their purpose may lie in the fact that they are trade bait to bring in rob blake or tchacuk to philly. Cujo is also like 3-12 vs. the flyers lifetime so goodluck beating us and the devils on your way into the finals. Lemme guess, you think the raptors are gonna beat the 76ers to get in the finals too? Sorry, had to rant.

Please, Please, Pretty Please, leave my Raptors out of this. The way they played on Saturday, I'm not sure they'll make the playoffs either.

oh, the raptors are going to make the playoffs, don't worry about that--i actually believe they'll take milwaukee to the full 5 before bowing out in the first round...vinsanity needs to get his act together though

How is Cujo slipping? Don't mistake Cujo's play for the lack of support he's getting up front. He's the only guy that's been keeping their games respectable. I think Lindros is a gamble they have to take, because the team they have right now isn't going to go too far. Maybe he can spark the team and get them going.
And I don't really like Basketball so I won't comment on the Raptors.

I said Cujo is slipping, i didn't say he was a bad goalie. The fact of the matter is, he is only two games over .500 which will not cut it. The leafs are now in third place with basically no chance of catching ottawa. Staring at the 6th seed with a floundering offense and team in disarray, i don't have a lot of hope for you guys. Their schedule coming up is against some pretty bad teams which they must capitalize on, this is their chance to make a run towards the top of the division. If they fail now, they are toast. I know you want to defend your team but be realistic, if this lindros trade doesn't work, the team is in very bad shape.
ProfessorFrink
02-20-2001, 03:06 PM
I am being realistic. I said they aren't going to do anything the way they are right now. I don't disagree that they aren't a great team. Because they are not. Lindros is the gamble they have to take. Even still, the Devils are the team to beat in the East. So maybe with new additions the Leafs can do what Buffalo did a few years back and make their way into the finals. Once the playoffs start, it's anybody's series to win. That's the nature of the game. Look at what the North Stars did back in 91(or maybe it was 92).
A winning percentage for Cujo is a useless stat when it's already been recognized that he's gotten little to no support. Of course it's going to be low.
The funny thing about this is that the Leafs aren't even my team. I live in the Toronto area so I follow them closely. I'm actually a Habs fan. With that being said, I expect the Hab-bashing to begin. So go ahead, kick us while we're down.

I appreciate your honesty, i can't make fun of the Habs, that's like making fun of a person with down syndrome. I feel sorry for you and your fans.
I must disagree with you on one level though. Although the devils are a great team, and yes the flyers have their share of bad outcomes with those pussies, i believe philly is the team to beat. Why? Since we hired our new coach Bill Barber about 2 and a half months ago, the best team in the NHL in terms of wins and total points are, of course, the flyers. Better than St. Louis, Colorado, Detroit, New Jersey, Ottawa, and yes, the Habs.

yea they've been saying that for days, actually i heard it was 45 million. A lot of money for someone who might not last more than 10 games.

the deal has apparently hit a snag....go to espn.com
ProfessorFrink
02-20-2001, 04:06 PM
Some rumours have been saying that the contract for Lindros could add up to the 45 million over 5 years if he meets certain conditions. So that way he must play a certain amount of games and produce a certain amount of points to earn the full amount.

well, wip, the sports talk radio station here says that markov and andropov left yesterday with their gear packed....
personally, i think that clarke will do whatever he can to make eric's life as miserable as possible for as long as possible...he will dangle this trade like a carrot in front of eric and then yank it away at the last minute...

I hope that whatever Clark does, he does it soon....I am a die hard Flyers fan, but there is NO WaY that they can compete with Detroit, Dallas or Colorado in the finals with their current line up...they'd get STOMPED. Get rid of Mr. Butterflies-circling-head and get some fresh players in the line up.
just my $.02
